NJS Group was established as a company by Nick Shopland 20 years ago in August 2001. During that time we have built up a reputation for quality and service envied by our peers and applauded by our clients for many projects in the South of England. We have been working with some of the UK’s largest house builders for many years now and as such I’m used to operating on and managing large scale sites within a high pressure environment. We now offer a wide spectrum of services across the construction industry. We have operated as subcontractor, main contractor, developer, development management, site safety consultants, specialist scaffold designers and we also expanded to Australia 2 years ago in response to industry demand for the services we provide.

I am the 100% sole owner of NJS Group and as such I have near limitless capacity and over 25 years of experience in construction, with Shopland Gray Developments acting as an extension of NJS which gives me full autonomy to utilise the NJS machine to carry out my own projects. I have undertaken projects both as subcontractor and main developer. I operate on a range of sites from smaller single builds all the way up to sites which are currently delivering 1,000 residential units, providing the full brickwork, scaffold, roofing and carpentry package and I have also undertaken many development sites of my own.

Sales, Lettings and marketing

Jamie’s real estate career began in the Middle East, and over an 8-year period, launched and delivered development projects in Dubai, Sharjah, Oman and Lebanon and achieving over $500m in gross sales. Jamie completed his Middle East venture by heading up one of the fastest growing real estate agencies in Dubai with an investment arm that oversaw $600m in transactions. During his tenure in Dubai, Jamie also graduated in Real Estate Development with George Washington University and achieved 3 international rugby caps for Lebanon. Jamie left the UAE to join hands with his brother, Daniel, and to focus on the family property development businesses, specialising in the development of student accommodation and residential projects with over 32,000 sqft in student stock and an asset base of over £10m. Whilst growing the development business Jamie and Daniel used their collective experiences and skill sets to launch NEXA Properties, a unique and Dubai styled estate agency, which is now in Portsmouth, Bristol, Cardiff, South Wales and Liverpool.

Site sourcing, negotiating and deal structure, planning

Daniel’s real estate career began during his time as a professional rugby player for Bristol rugby club. Daniel has always had an interest in property development and design, and undertook his first acquisition and refurbishment on a 2 bedroom flat in Bristol in 2006 where he began a string of small and medium scale property developments during a 12 year rugby career, adding value through re-design, refurbishment and or new build. Daniel acquired a considerable portfolio across the south-west of England over this time, building equity in to each property and retaining the assets as investments. Daniel finished his professional rugby career in Worcester in 2012 where he completed his final and biggest personal property development, before trading on his portfolio and joining his brother Jamie to combine their expertise and start building the family property business together. Over the next 4 years they grew the family portfolio from a single student rental HMO property to a £10m portfolio of over 130 luxury PBSA student units across 32,000 sq ft of buildings (part new build and part conversion) in prime city centre locations, with another 160 units in the pipeline for delivery in Exeter. Daniel was responsible for everything from finding the sites, running the planning applications, negotiating and letting construction contracts, working with lenders, bank monitoring surveyors, project management and ultimately handover of properties to purchasers or tenants. Alongside the PBSA development, and more recently, Daniel and Jamie have acquired interests in, or are negotiating on, various other promotion and option agreements on a number of residential sites and have a current pipeline of circa 100+ residential units to be delivered across various sized schemes under promotion and option agreements.

Construction, Real Estate and Property Development

Joe’s real estate involvement started in 2012 when he moved to Australia to study Real Estate at Kings College, The University of Queensland. Joe has always had an interest in Real Estate, property development and construction. After studying Real Estate at University, Joe used his knowledge to start up his own company of NJS Australia. NJS Australia covered all aspects of brickwork and scaffolding; the principle foundations to new builds which then allowed Joe to follow through with these projects from start to finish. Joe was involved in multiple projects in Australia and after 6 years of building his Australian portfolio, decided to use his successful experience and work within the Shopland Gray team in the UK.

Construction / Regional Contractor

Chris has worked in the Construction Industry all his working life, starting with a Regional Contractor at 16 carrying his ONC and HNC in Building Studies. Now with nearly 30 years experience and having worked with both Developers and Contractors, Chris finds most satisfaction in leading the Shopland Gray Team in all of its projects from inception through to completion.
